Abstract

This research aims to find out how effective of using blended learning trough Google Classroom application to improve the students’ reading comprehension. It is a True Experimental Design exactly Pretest-Posttest Control Design with 129 students as the population. Random sampling technique is used to decide the sample while reading test takes place as the instrument. The result of analyzing the data shows that the mean score of experimental group in pre-test 60.03 is lower than the mean score in post-test 81.91. While from the control group in pre-test 58.35 is lower than the mean score in post-test 62.06. The standard deviation of experimental group in pre-test is 19.719 and in post-test is 10.231 while from the control group in pre-test is 12.454 and in post-test is 14.311. From the computation of independent sample t-test in pre-test, the Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.686 which the level of significance is (0.686 > 0.05). It means that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. From post-test, the Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 which the significant level is (0.000 < 0.05). It shows that the use of blended learning through Google Classroom application is effective to improve the students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students.

Abstract

This research is to find out the improvement of students’ listening skill using dictogloss technique with joox app at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Gunung Kaler. The research is conducted based on some problems: 1. How is the improvement of students’ listening skill before and after using dictogloss technique with joox app? 2. How is the effectiveness of using dictogloss technique with joox app? 3. How is students opinion after implementing using dictogloss technique with Joox app to improve listening skill? The researcher used a pre-experimental research design with use the instruments were three stages are pre-test, treatment and post-test. Population of the research was the eight grade of SMPN 1 Gunung Kaler, academic year 2021/2022. The sample of the research used class VIII A as experiment class from 27 students. The data analysis of this research used t-test.  The results of this study indicate the effect of implementation dictogloss Technique with Joox app effective for improving students' listening skill.  The effect of treatment is seen from the post-test results with a mean score of 78.9 with improvement 76.51%, which means that there is a significant effect of using dictogloss Technique with Joox app in improving students' listening skills.

Abstract

This experimental study investigated the effect of Offline Track Changes Peer-Review and achievement motivation toward students’ writing competency of the tenth grade at SMAN 1 UBUD. There were two variables examined. The independent variable was Offline Track Changes Peer-Review and moderator variable was achievement motivation. Dependent variable was writing competency. Posttest only control group design with 2x2 factorial arrangement was administered in this study. The population covered eight classes of the tenth grade and only four classes were taken as sample with 131 students. The data were collected using analytical writing rubric, achievement motivation questionnaire and anecdotal notes. Two way ANOVA and Tukeytest were administered to analyze the data. The result shows: (1) there was a significant effect of Offline Track Changes Peer-Review on students’ writing competency, (2) there was an interactional effect between Offline Track Changes Peer-Review and students’ achievement motivation on students’ writing competency, (3) there was a  significant difference of writing competency between high achievement motivated students taught by Offline Track Changes Peer-Review and high achievement motivated students taught by conventional strategy, and (4) there was a significant difference of writing competency between low achievement motivated students taught by Offline Track Changes Peer-Review and low achievement motivated students taught by conventional strategy.

Abstract

Abstract                The purpose of this study is to clarify the types of intraverbal acts in Nadira Affifa's speech as a student speaker  in the Master's program in public health in 2020 after graduating from Harvard University. This study focused on the types of intra-speech behavior promoted by Yule (1996). This study used qualitative explanations by analyzing Nadira's speech as the main data. In addition, the source of the data for this survey was collected by downloading audio and video  from YouTube. The data is then analyzed and converted into a document. In addition, the data was grouped into five types of spoken diplomatic behavior. The findings prove that there are four types of spoken diplomatic behavior used in Nadira's speech. They were representative, expressive, instructive, and authoritative. In this term, there is no declarative intra-speech act type. Apparently, the preferred mode of spoken diplomatic activity was typical. That semester, Nadilla provided information about the importance of being part of the public health of the day  she was worried about. In the meantime, the percentages showed the most used and  least used  types of spoken diplomatic behavior throughout Nadira's speech. They were representative (56.4%), expressive (30.7%), directive (5.1%), binding (7.7%), and declarative (0%). This means that representative and expressive ones are prioritized. This happens because the speaker giving the context and speech is the speaker of the  graduation student.

Abstract

English debating has taken its role to improve students’ performance in speaking and critical thinking skill, but it is through a long and uneasy process. This paper aims at exploring the lived experience of an English teacher in an Islamic boarding school who initiated the first English debating club and coached the members to be a considerable debating team in regional and national levels. The data of this narrative inquiry study were collected through several semi-structured interviews. The meaningful experiences and insights from the research data were highlighted thematically and presented as the data findings. This study found several roles of the teacher in initiating the debating club, such as establishing the club, recruiting the members, structuring the regular rehearsal, mapping the students’ strengths and weaknesses, and giving feedback and motivation. Under the limited sources of time and information, the teacher guided the students to work effectively and support them mentally. Her roles in coaching the debating club also inspired her professional identity as an English teacher. It implied that establishing running an English debating community requires a sequence of roles. In another way, it also strengthened the English teacher’s professional identity. Implications and practical suggestions are also discussed in this paper.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has indirectly pushed lecturers out of their comfort zone from conventional teaching to distance teaching (online). This study uses Google Classroom as a medium in distance learning for English courses because this media can connect lecturers with students online. This is a qualitative study that the author is conducting in order to have a better understanding of distant learning in order to reduce the spread of covid-19 on campus. Students enrolled in Informatics Engineering class 2B were the subjects of this study. The survey's findings were broken down into three categories: student perspectives on the success of studying with Google Classroom, the simplicity of using Google Classroom, and the obstacles found during online lectures. According to the findings of the study, the implementation of Google Classroom is considered successful since it can make it easier to complete lecture assignments, improve the learning effectiveness, and assist students in learning. Furthermore, in terms of usability, Google Classroom is simple to learn, comprehend, utilize, and adapt. In addition, there are limitations to utilizing Google Classroom, such as quotas and internet access.
